"Someone Like You" - Adele

I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,"
Yeah.

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

Ra.One - Review

Ra.One / G.One, the stupidest concept. Ra.One - Randomized Algorithm Version I, please if the RAA prof would hear it he will faint. And G.One - Good One, aaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh. Acting-wise I would say the worst performance by Sharukh ( I watched DDLJ some millionth time and his work is awesome ) and I had no expectations from kareena. Nothing special about the supporting actors also. After all this I would still say the idea - concept was nice. A very non-innovative but interesting story. The same idea in SPY KIDS is appreciated but when Indian director does that it is considered a flop. Indian audience is mature enough to handle movies like Dirty Picture or Bigg Boss but cant understand this virtualization concept. Hmmmmmmm
Hollywood Movies like Avatar, Inception, Minority Report and many more have concepts that are beyond science and all these are hits, then why Ra.One is not even given any thought.

"My Happy Ending" - AVRIL LAVIGNE

So much for my happy ending
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...

Let's talk this over
It's not like we're dead
Was it something I did?
Was it something You said?
Don't leave me hanging
In a city so dead
Held up so high
On such a breakable thread

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be

[Chorus:]
You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
And all of the memories, so close to me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...

You've got your dumb friends
I know what they say
They tell you I'm difficult
But so are they
But they don't know me
Do they even know you?
All the things you hide from me
All the shit that you do [CD version]
All the stuff that you do [radio edited version]

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be

[Chorus]

It's nice to know that you were there
Thanks for acting like you cared
And making me feel like I was the only one
It's nice to know we had it all
Thanks for watching as I fall
And letting me know we were done

[Chorus x2]

[x2]
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...
So much for my happy ending

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...

"White Horse" - TAYLOR SWIFT

Say you're sorry
That face of an angel
Comes out just when you need it to
As I paced back and forth all this time
Cause I honestly believed in you
Holding on
The days drag on
Stupid girl,
I should have known, I should have known

[Chorus:]
I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale,
I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet,
Lead her up the stairwell
This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,
I was a dreamer before you went and let me down,
Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around

Baby I was naive,
Got lost in your eyes
And never really had a chance
My mistake, I didn't know to be in love
You had to fight to have the upper hand
I had so many dreams
About you and me
Happy endings
Now I know

[Chorus:]
I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale,
I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet,
Lead her up the stairwell
This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,
I was a dreamer before you went and let me down,
Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around

And there you are on your knees,
Begging for forgiveness, begging for me
Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry

Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale,
I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well
This is a big world, that was a small town
There in my rear view mirror disappearing now
And it's too late for you and your white horse
Now it's too late for you and your white horse to catch me now

Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa
Try and catch me now
Oh, it's too late
To catch me now

Abba - The Winner Takes It All

Writer: ANDERSSON, BENNY/ULVAEUS, BJORN

I don't wanna talk about things we've gone through,
Though it's hurting me, now it's history.
I've played all my cards and that's what you've done too,
Nothing more to say, no more ace to play.
The winner takes it all,
The loser standing small beside the victory, that's her destiny.

I was in your arms thinking I belonged there,
I figured it made sense, building me a fence,
Building me a home, thinking I'd be strong there,
But I was a fool, playing by the rules.
The gods may throw a dice, their minds as cold as ice,
And someone way down here loses someone dear.

The winner takes it all, the loser has to fall,
It's simple and it's plain, why should I complain.

But tell me, does she kiss like I used to kiss you,
Does it feel the same when she calls your name.
Somewhere deep inside you must know I miss you,
But what can I say, rules must be obeyed.
The judges will decide the likes of me abide,
Spectators of the show always staying low.

The game is on again, a lover or a friend,
A big thing or a small, the winner takes it all.

I don't wanna talk if it makes you feel sad,
And I understand you've come to shake my hand.
I apologize if it makes you feel bad seeing me so tense, no self confidence.

An attempt to say what I want to say.......

You are the one I trust
You are the one I care for
You are the one I want to talk to
You are the one I want to be with

You are the one whose jokes I laugh at
You are the one whose shoulders I seek
You are the one whose dreams I want to be in
You are the one whose wishes I want to fulfill

You are the one I want by my side always
You are the one I would like to please
You are the one I want to share my pain with
You are the one I don’t want to share with anyone

You are the one I want to understand
You are the one I want to understand me
You are the one I want to spend my life with
You are the only one who can make me feel the way you make me feel

Classic Novels

I just finished "Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen, and day before yesterday I completed “Midnight’s Children” by Salman Rushdie. I wrote this blog to pen down few things about classics that I enjoy.

Midnight’s Children is probably a very good book, it did win loads of awards but it had so many unnecessary details, I got bored. I felt the story was actually interesting and adding the incidents from our history surely could have made it interesting. But, I can definitely say it was a chewing which was chewed so so much that I couldn’t enjoy the taste. On the other hand, I was so glad to read Jane Austen. I knew I would love Sense and Sensibility; I owe that to the writer. Pride and Prejudice being my favorite, I always am biased towards the similar novels. My second favorite is none other than “Gone with the wind” by Margaret Mitchell.

These novels, classics as I call them, based on 18th – 19th century have their typical style. The reason I love these writers is their way of explaining each and every expression. They make sure the reader gets the writers point. Of course a critic reader would look at other perspective and alternative explanation, but knowing what the writer had in mind is very important. “Why did so-so leave town suddenly”, “Why so-so proposed and so-so said no”, “Why she did this he did that”, all these are explained in great detail. I personally find these missing in present day writers.

I guess the second most attractive thing about theses novels is their happy ending. I love Jane Austen for her beautiful ending. There is generally a sickness sadness heart break death but always it has an awesome ending. She reminds me – the depth of sibling relationships - concern of mothers -always mothers are concerned about the daughter’s wedding (I don’t need to be reminded of that though) - the passion of love - the trust in friendship .

The ‘proud’ Darcy of “Pride and Prejudice”, not only has an effect on the ‘just’ Elizabeth, he has an influence on every reader. The ‘bold’ Scarlett of “Gone with the wind” shows the extent to which a lady can go for something she loves and her true love was “Tara” – the home plantation. The ‘tomboy’ Jo in “Little Women” tells not all ladies sit and play piano or stitch. The different stages of life of “Jane Eyre” bring surprises with every page. The thought of “Wuthering Heights” still gives me shivers and the choice of language used in the book is so perfect for ‘raw’ Heathcliff. And about my latest novel the ‘composed’ character of Elinor is marvelous in “Sense and Sensibility”. I probably have read a lot of “chicklets” (feminist novels), as a friend of mine would call them. But I guess this is the type I love.

The characters are always very clearly portrayed. The writer gives plenty of explanations. The emotions are so natural and lovely. The story is so enticing. Love is always the key. They are bound to be in my favorites.

Crying by Don McLean

I was all right for a while

I could smile for a while

But when I saw you last night

You held my hand so tight

When you stopped to say hello

And though you wished me well

You couldn't tell

That I'd been crying over you, crying over you

Then you said so long

And left me standing all alone

Alone and crying, crying, crying, crying

It's hard to understand

That the touch of your hand

Can start me crying

I thought that I was over you

But it's true, so true

I love you even more than I did before

But darling, what can I do?

You don't love me

And I'll always be crying over you, crying over you

Yes, now you're gone

And from this moment on

I'll be crying, crying, crying, crying

I'm crying, crying...

"Throw me a rope" by KT Tunstall

I want you between me and the feeling i get when i miss you,
but everything here's telling me i should be fine,
so why is it so, it bothers below that im missing you every time?

i got used to you whispering things to me into the evening,
we followed the sun, and it's colours, and left this world,
it seems to me, that i'm definately, hearing the best that i've heard,.

so throw me a rope, to hold me in place,
show me a clock, for counting my days, down,
cos everythings easier when you're beside me,
come back and find me,
cos i feel alone.

and whenever you go it's like holding my breath under water,
i have to admit that i kinda like it when i do,
oh but i got to be, unconditionally,
unafraid, of my days, without you,

so throw me a rope, to hold me in place,
show me a clock, for counting my days, down,
'cos everything easier when you're beside me,
come back and find me,
whenever i'm falling, you're always behind me,
come back and find me,
cos everythings easier when you're beside me,
come back and find me,
cos i feel alone

Support Anna Hazare – Are we ready for it

I suppose everyone – kids, youth, old supported Anna Hazare and the cause. But the amount of effort to eradicate corruption entirely from India is huge, how many can actually go through it?

A cousin recently got placed in a bank, after long wait. Before issuing the joining letter there are few verifications to be done, this is how it proceeds – Pay here to move your application then pay there to proceed. Now everyone supported Anna when he was fasting, everyone wants India to be corruption free but what should one do when such a situation occurs – pay and at least get the job or wait n wait forever because it’s not gonna move ahead until they see cash. This is a bank job similar thing goes when you submit a passport application, it requires verification too. I remember my passport application was retrieved from trash the day I went to the passport office.

Few days back I was travelling in bus from Mumbai to pune, there was this conductor being over helpful. Guiding the correct bus then loading the bag (small enough to be carried in the bus cabin) in the compartment below the bus and also indicating the seats. Then he asked for tip, as lately a conductor on Bangalore – pune bus asked for cash for loading unloading my luggage too I thought it’s what I am supposed to. Now this was a small tip but some places this tips are huge to get the work done. How do you distinguish between what a waiter deserves and a conductor does not. Where exactly do you draw a line as to what a labor deserves and he does not!

Education profile

This blog is inspired by the latest advertisement by shiksha.com. There is this one nerd who says this particular XYZ University is what I am going to join for my post graduation and everyone just follows him. This ad truly shows what exactly happens in reality. Most of us join the college that someone in our vicinity – a cousin/ friend/ family friend/ neighbor/ senior had joined. Rests of us join what comes in our way, based on results or something near the house or the place whose fees donation is affordable.

Very few research and try to find the correct col that suits their interests. As in one of the favorite Chetan Bhaghat novels – 77% of the IItians go for IIMs. A friend of mine states this as – you study physics chemistry mathematics to get into an IIT, where you do Comp Sc or Civil Engg or even chemical Engg, then prepare for CAT and get into top IIM A B or C for management studies, finally join an investment banking job that pays in dollars. The statistics say that people just follow the paths laid by the others, clearly the pay is huge people live a luxurious life but how many actually research in area of interest.

Probably the path is so clearly laid in front - that this itself becomes aim/dreams of many. There are experts in physics who end up in investment bank. Why many do not follow their interests? Why is that most people don’t even try to find their interests? Is earning a good salary enough? Is following a perfectly tested path (where ever it leads you to) enough? I

I guess this is the main reason of salary discrimination in India. Here the education system and the students are so mechanical it’s always a doctor, an engineer, a business analyst and occasionally a cricketer (world cup hype).

Just a thought ....

Just saw the movie – Pearl Harbor (the previous blog with the song lyrics makes it obvious), the movie obviously a classic is an awesome movie. It has emotions sentiments romance friendship patriotism drama everything, a perfect package. 3 hours is a long duration for a movie, thought its not at all boring or dragging at any moment.
The words of the Japanese Admiral – If I was smart, I would have found a way without war, these words stuck me. The attack at Pearl Harbor was basically to prevent US from causing any hindrance in Japan’s conquests but as said in the movie it awakened a sleeping giant. Who is the reason for all the destruction caused in the war? A country tries to protect itself from another by being proactive and attacking, and the other country defends itself or rather takes avenge for its loss. Losses are on both sides, destruction is massive both sides – who exactly is responsible? The admiral who gave the orders that came from high above, the soldiers who followed the orders, the country people who suffer human and material loss, or the neighbor country who tries to be ally to one of the fighting countries. One mastermind high above comes up with this master plan of ruling over everything and someone innocent ends up losing everyone/everything.
Few days back – world cup 2011, there was the India Pakistan semi final match. People hate Pakistan so bad that when the national anthem of Pakistan was played, the disrespect was inevitable. When there was Srilanka India final match and Srilankan anthem was played, people were atleast not disrespectful. The amount of hatred there is for Pakistan as a country in Indians is of no measure. Indians have lost their families their homes their possessions even their respect cause of the partitions and definitely the war has not stopped – the kargil, the Kashmir, it just keeps going on and on. But the question remains the same is every person in Pakistan responsible? Is the flag, the national anthem, the soil of Pakistan also to be punished?
Ofcourse there can be an argument about Osama being in Pakistan all this while and also the rumors about many India’s wanted terrorists staying safely in Pakistan. But again even if these are caught and go to jail in India what happens – Kasab case, never will there be a raid like Obama did for Osama. The point is not about what if these are caught. But is it for sure none of those are Indian origins, is Pakistan to be blamed cent percent for everything?
People may not agree with what I have said, I am just voicing an opinion here. I am not supporting Pakistan nor am I against people who dislike the country.

Faith Hill - There You'll Be

When I think back
On these times
And the dreams
We left behind
I’ll be glad 'cause
I was blessed to get
To have you in my life
When I look back
On these days
I’ll look and see your face
You were right there for me

In my dreams
I’ll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I’ll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you’ll be

Well you showed me
How it feels
To feel the sky
Within my reach
And I always
Will remember all
The strength you
Gave to me
Your love made me
Make it through
Oh, I owe so much to you
You were right there for me

In my dreams
I’ll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I’ll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you’ll be

'Cause I always saw in you
My light, my strength
And I want to thank you
Now for all the ways
You were right there for me
You were right there for me
For always

In my dreams
I’ll always see you soar
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I’ll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you’ll be

:-D

Have you ever heard a singer saying Oh damn I have to write/sing a song
A painter saying - I just have to finish this painting then will go for a movie
Why do engineers, doing masters say I got to finish this work
If programming is also an art like Software Engg says why is it a burden for those who take it as profession

Irony is even people who love logics and programming end up getting caught in web of deadlines, rather than enjoying what they like it becomes a torture.

My first blog in the year, I had loads of deadlines to meet so ...:
